The Super Smash Bros. franchise splashed onto the video game scene in 1999 with the release of Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64. It was a hit with fans of Nintendo due to the roster compiling some of the most iconic characters they had grown up with, all together in one title.
The series really cemented itself with its second entry, 2001’s Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo GameCube, which has since become a competitive mainstay. The title is widely regarded as the greatest by fans, but Nintendo has continued the franchise with three further entries on the modern generations of consoles.
2018’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the latest in line, releasing on the Nintendo Switch. It featured 75 characters at launch, including every single veteran character from the franchise, and has since received eight DLC characters – a number which is still increasing!
